You’re here because you want in on a secret. Maybe you’re thinking of starting your own blog or Instagram account with the hopes of making money. Maybe you’d just like to supplement your current income while having fun and sharing your words and pictures. Maybe you’re stuck in a 9-5 you hate and have been dreaming of telling your boss to shove it.
Starting a business is scary, plain and simple.
What makes a business owner successful? How do they take the bull by the horns and create something from nothing to support their lives and families?
In starting my blog and wanting to create an intangible business online, I drilled every one of my friends and acquaintances who owned their own businesses. I’m talking hair stylists, welders, restaurant owners, life coaches, coffee shop owners, bloggers, photographers….. because I had a NEED to know: how did they do it???
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Every one of them, every. single. one, shrugged, then said something along the lines of
“I dunno. I just do it.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most of them don’t quite know the next step. They’ve been freakin’ terrified at regular intervals. But they do it anyway. They take what they know, what they’re good at, and they find people who need that skill. Period.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If this sounds like an over simplified explanation, that’s because it sort of is. But it’s the absolute basis for any business: Fill a need. Solve a problem. What may seem obvious to you is amazing and life changing to others. You don’t have to have all the answers to begin.
What you do need is the courage to start and a willingness to make shit up as you go.
So, whether you’re ready to start a blog or you’ve already established your little piece of the interwebs and you’re looking to grow, understand that there is no one, exclusive way to do it. Much of the time, we figure it out on the fly, and that’s ok. The important thing to remember is, unless you get out there and just do it, nothing will ever happen.
