If the idea of changing your diet is just plain overwhelming to you, I want to introduce a simple alternative: something I call baby steps to health.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Baby steps to health is exactly what it sounds like: each day, take a small step in the right direction and eventually you will find yourself making more and more healthy choices of your own accord.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Drop the ‘all or nothing’ thinking and realize you can have both the fried foods and the healthy ones. My only caveat: pay close attention to how each food makes you feel afterwards. Let’s take a look at what some baby steps might look like:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– If you drink soda regularly, try replacing one soda per day with water.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– Eat a green salad alongside your pizza
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– If you regularly snack during the day, replace one daily snack with something healthy like hummus and veggies or an apple with peanut butter.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– Limit your ice cream to one scoop and top with with as much fresh berries and fruit as you’d like
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– If you hate the taste of water, try adding a squirt of a zero calorie water flavoring (found in most grocery stores)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
– Try wrapping your sandwich or burger in lettuce instead of a bun
⠀
By substituting one healthy choice per day, you are creating a habit, which is how any healthy lifestyle begins. Remind yourself that you have a choice, every. single. day. By paying attention to how your body feels after each meal, you can being to understand which foods your body is asking for. Every single client I’ve had incorporate this has reported wanting more and more healthy options because it simply made them feel better.
⠀
Think about your day ahead. What’s one whole food/healthy decision you can incorporate into your day without stressing over it?
